That's it folks, the last post. We received our occupancy permit last week (March 15/10) and can move in any time. The lose ends (mouldings, closet organizers, dusting, cleaning) will be sorted out and furniture set up in a week or two. It's been an incredible journey and now it's time to sit back and enjoy. It seems like we've been working evenings and weekends forever. It was fun, frustrating, challenging, a tremendous learning experience, and I wouldn't hesitate to start it all over again tomorrow. We have a beautiful log home, our dream home, on the shores of the picturesque Mira River, Cape Breton Island, and our choice of Kuhns Bros Log Homes and Larry Begg of Begg Construction made it all possible. There are of course lots of other contractors and personal friends to thank, however the combination of a quality log product and skilled craftsmanship are essential and the folks at Kuhns Bros and Begg Construction exceed all expectations.
The past month or so was spent laying engineered hard wood (hickory)in the great room, installing cupboards and counter tops, and moulding and window trim. The floor is floating and I would highly recommend this type of installation rather than gluing. There is virtually no movement and no mess with very expensive glue.
We'll be in by Easter and plan on starting up Hearts Content Log Homes Ltd as the Nova Scotia representative for Kuhns Bros Log Homes.
Last Tip of the week: If you're seriously considering a log home, take a look at Kuhn's Bros Log Homes you won't be disappointed.
